Abstract
Anthroposophic cardiology is not an alternative but an integrative approach which gives greater insight into the heart as an organ and at the same time broadens the horizons of the heart and cordiality physiologically, psychologically, spiritually, cosmically and christologically. Broadening the concepts of conventional medicine and anthropology, where the brain is considered to be the sole organic basis for the life of the soul, the body-soul-spirit problem can be developed from the point of view of anthroposophy and spiritual science and in terms of the threefold nature of the human organism in soul and body to arrive at a differentiated psychosomatic approach. Here the life of the human soul is differentiated into a life of ideas in full waking consciousness which has the brain, the neurosensory system, as its physical instrument, into feeling which is at the level of dream consciousness, its organological basis being the rhythmic system with heart and lung as its central organs, and into the will, at the sleep level of conscious awareness, which has the system of metabolism and limbs for its physical basis. The wide view thus taken of the heart and of cordiality has its effect in cardiology and on understanding the human being as a social spirit.
