Abstract
The international controlled cohort study IIPCOS-2 (internatinal integrative primary care outcomes study) demonstrated the efficacy of anthroposophic treatment for acute upper respiratory tract diseases as compared to conventional treatment. On the basis of the study, the prescribing data for Wala Plantago Bronchial Balm, Wala Plantago cough linctus and Wala Thymus, Oleum aethereum 5 % were subjected to subgroup analysis. The participating physicians prescribed the products mainly for cough due to acute bronchitis, tracheitis or laryngotracheitis. Evolution was positive with the treatment, patient satisfaction at a high level, and tolerance good. Only one of the 164 patients treatment with the Wala products needed additional antibiotics. This corresponds roughly to the total population of patients receiving anthroposophic treatment, who with 0.8 % of prescriptions had distinctly less often antibiotics than conventionally treated patients with 26.6 %.
