Abstract
Rudolf Steiner’s concept of the ‘unborn state’ is considered in relation to the complex field of tension where medical issues and possible interventions for pregnancy and parturition are concerned. The concept is of the determined will to exist of an individual spirit which soon after ending one biography on earth creates the preconditions for a next one, doing so in collaboration with divine and spiritual powers. Embryonic and fetal development is therefore a process which has been in preparation for a long time and is part of a meaningful destiny context. There an effective I is active which will have to be taken into account in a future medical anthropology.
